“Oedipus El Rey” Brought the West Coast to Boston
The play sucked me in the moment a bunch of vatos in a California state penitentiary, a modern-day chorus, took over the stage and set up a world of family, betrayal, love, anger, disappointment, and yes, even joy.

Eureka Day offers a sendup of performative progressiveness. The show satirizes a Bay Area private school confronting a mumps outbreak. Here, parents who are ideologically aligned must confront their own biases and baggage. Just how open-minded are they, really?
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’s Tony-winning ‘Purpose’ will launch the new season at the Huntington
Announced Wednesday, the company’s season will also include “To Kill a Mockingbird,” Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of the novel by Harper Lee; “Adia & Clora Snatch Joy,” the final installment of Mfoniso Udofia’s nine-play cycle about a Nigerian-American family; Talene Monahon’s “Meet the Cartozians,” about the Armenian-American experience; and a new musical, “Unorthodox,” based on Deborah Feldman’s memoir about her departure from the Hasidic community in New York she was raised in.
