Coolidge Corner Stage & Screen: The Rules of the Game
Monday, March 3rd, 2025 at 7 pm at the Coolidge Corner Theatre
Featuring a post-screening discussion with guests of the Huntington’s production of The Triumph of Love.
Jean Renoir’s scathing critique of corrupt French society, cloaked in a comedy of manners. At la Colinière, the deceptively idyllic country estate of a wealthy Parisian aristocrat, a selection of society’s finest gather for a rural sojourn and shooting party. Over the course of the weekend, they reveal themselves to be absurdly cruel and vapid.
This special screening of The Rules of the Game coincides with our production of The Triumph of Love, running March 7 through April 6 at The Huntington Theatre.
Coolidge Corner Stage & Screen: Summertime
Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 at 7:00 pm at the Coolidge Corner Theatre
Featuring a post-screening discussion with guests of the Huntington’s production of The Light in the Piazza.
With this sublimely bittersweet tale of romantic longing, director David Lean left behind the British soundstage to capture the sun-splashed glory of Venice at the height of summer in radiant Technicolor. In a tour de force of fearless vulnerability, Katharine Hepburn portrays the conflicting emotions that stir the heart of a lonely, middle-aged American tourist who is forced to confront her insecurities when she is drawn into a seemingly impossible affair with a charming Italian shopkeeper (Rossano Brazzi) amid the ancient city’s canals and piazzas. Lean’s personal favorite among his own films, Summertime is an exquisitely tender evocation of the magic and melancholy of a fleeting, not-quite-fairy-tale romance.
This screening coincides with our production of The Light in the Piazza, running May 8 through June 15 at The Huntington Theatre.
